Oxbow Park Hike

Last weekend members of the troop hiked 5 miles around Oxbow park. In total there were 9 scouts and 8 adults. The hike was a good starter to begin the summer of hiking. The conditions started with typical northwest weather rain and mud, but towards the end of the hike it was relatively dry. The route took us alongside the river Sandy where we passed through beautiful oak growth forest, saw plants and flowers getting ready for summer, and ran into deer, who watched us with wary eyes, but didn’t seem too concerned as we tried to get by. We stopped and cooked lunch by the river using the stoves and freeze dried food, and then before we got too cold, headed back.

Some of us learned what additional clothes we should bring, some learned to bring food, and others truly adopted the spirit of these hiking events by putting additional weights in their backpacks to test themselves!
